Grant of Probate

Why do you need a Grant of Probate? In simple terms the Grant of Probate is an acknowledgement from the government that all your taxes have been paid and you are free to leave. The document, when issued, means that when your Executor presents it at a bank to get your money the banks know it is OK to release the funds as all taxes will have been paid.
