As Executor why am I going to do Probate? If you are an Executor then…
What is a Codicil?
A Codicil is a document that allows you to make changes to an existing Will without creating a completely new document. There is an ongoing debate amongst Will writers as to which codicils should be done and which ones really trigger a new Will. If you forget the practical side of things, the more documents you have the greater the chance of losing one. Moving house, changing a minor charity you are donating to are good candidates for a codicil. If you need to change your Executors however or you make substantial changes to who benefits there is a good argument for a completely new document, if nothing else creating a completely new document demonstrates that you have given this substantial change due consideration.
