OPG
Who are the OPG?
The OPG are the Office of the Public Guardian who are part of the Ministry of Justice in England and Wales, responsible for safeguarding the interests of individuals who may lack mental capacity. Most people come into contact with the OPG when they have their lasting powers of attorney (LPAs) registered. The OPG also supervise Court-appointed deputies which are the people that can be put in place if you fail to put an LPA in place in time. They also are responsible for investigating concerns about attorneys or deputies. The OPG also supports the carrying out of the legal functions of the Mental Capacity Act 2005.
